FAQ’s
How important is the assessment form?
Extremely important.
The assessment process allows us to understand your situation, identify what is keeping you stuck, and design a retreat tailored specifically to your needs. The better we understand the problem, the more focused and effective the retreat can be.
What if I feel nervous about attending?
Almost everyone does.
Many clients arrive feeling anxious, sceptical, overwhelmed, or unsure what to expect. Within a very short period of time most find themselves settling into the process and feeling relieved they made the decision to come. Many wish they came sooner!
Who attends your retreats?
Individuals and couples from all walks of life.
We regularly work with professionals, business owners, healthcare workers, parents, retirees, and people who have often tried other forms of therapy without achieving the change they were looking for.
Where do the therapy sessions take place?
Sessions take place within private, comfortable retreat settings designed to create the right environment for focused therapeutic work, reflection, and meaningful change. Our selection of venues ensures this. Alternatively, if you wish to find your own accommodation it must have suitable space for therapy work. We can discuss this prior to your booking.
What does a typical day look like?
Every retreat is tailored to the individual or couple attending.
A typical day includes intensive therapy sessions, practical exercises, reflection work, therapeutic tasks, and time to absorb and integrate what has been learned.
Do you focus heavily on the past?
No.
Understanding the past can sometimes be useful, but our focus is on identifying what is keeping you stuck today and what needs to change moving forward.
We are interested in solutions, not endless analysis.
What if I arrive feeling upset, overwhelmed, or emotional?
That is completely normal.
Many people arrive carrying years of stress, anxiety, resentment, or emotional exhaustion. The retreat is designed to help you safely work through these challenges in a structured and supportive environment.
Why do people often experience significant change so quickly?
Because they are fully immersed in the process.
When people step away from everyday distractions and commit fully to focused therapeutic work, change often happens much faster than it does through occasional weekly sessions. Our retreat is the ultimate relationship retreat and change happens very quickly. If you put the action in, then change is inevitable and fast!
Are there any issues you do not work with?
Retreats are assessed on an individual basis.
The assessment process helps determine whether a retreat is likely to be beneficial and ensures clients are offered the most appropriate support.
Do I need to be religious?
No.
People of all faiths and none attend our retreats.
The focus is on evidence-based therapeutic work, personal growth, emotional wellbeing, and meaningful change.
What if my partner is reluctant to attend?
This is extremely common. Men are usually more sensitive about sharing personal issues. Men can feel like they are walking into an ambush.
In fact, many of our most successful retreats begin with one partner being sceptical, resistant, or unsure about therapy.
People often arrive expecting counselling.
What they experience is something very different.
There is no blame, no taking sides, and no dragging people through a catalogue of past mistakes.
The focus is on understanding what is keeping the relationship stuck, taking responsibility for change, and creating a future that is stronger than the past.
Both partners can expect to feel challenged, supported, and treated with equal respect throughout the process.
Can a relationship recover after an affair?
In many cases, yes, absolutely.
While every situation is different, relationships can recover from infidelity when both people are willing to engage honestly with the process and commit to rebuilding trust.
Can you guarantee results?
No ethical therapist can guarantee outcomes.
What we can guarantee is a highly personalised, intensive process designed to maximise the likelihood of meaningful and lasting change. Many clients have gone on to get engaged, move in together and even renew their vows. Our reviews are well worth a read to see the success of many clients who have attended our retreats.
Is there support after the retreat?
Yes. Included in the retreat package is two follow up calls or online video calls.
Follow-up support is also available to help maintain progress, reinforce learning, and support ongoing change once you return home. Some clients book once a month or even once a quarter session to keep refreshing their new skills.
Can I bring work with me?
Ideally no. We strongly recommend minimising work commitments during the retreat.
The more fully you immerse yourself in the process, the greater the potential benefit.
What accommodation options are available?
Accommodation varies depending on the retreat package and location selected. Options may include private countryside cottages, boutique accommodation, hotels, and spa venues.
Will venue staff know why I am attending?
No.
Your privacy and confidentiality are treated with the utmost importance. The venues know we will be in attendance to the venue but will have no information as to why.
How do I pay?
A deposit secures your retreat dates, with the remaining balance due before the retreat begins. Full payment details are provided during the booking process.
Do I need to be physically mobile?
A reasonable level of mobility is helpful, although specific requirements depend on the venue selected. Please discuss any concerns with us during the assessment process.
What is your cancellation policy?
Full cancellation details are provided before booking and form part of the retreat agreement. Deposits are usually non-refundable as venues and therapist time must be booked. If there is 30 days or more to the start date of retreat, we are likely able to fill the retreat and refund all fees paid including deposits, less an administration charge and possibly the venue charge if this cannot be filled in time. Cancellations less than two weeks’ notice will incur the loss of venue fees and possibly retreat fee. If we cannot fill the places. We are always sympathetic to reasons for cancellations and try to return fees which do not incur a loss. Retreats can be postponed to a later date with no loss of fees if we have sufficient notice and a valid reason.
Can I bring children or pets?
Retreats are designed to provide complete focus and immersion. In most cases, children and pets are not able to attend.
How much analysis of my past do you undertake?
Far less than most traditional therapy.
We focus primarily on understanding the patterns, behaviours, beliefs, and emotional responses that are affecting your life and relationships today.
The goal is not to keep revisiting the past.
The goal is to change your future.
